PURPOSE
PWA has a mission of engaging people living with HIV/AIDS in enhancing their health and well-being through practical and therapeutic support services and broader social change; and to inspire them to live into their dreams and discoveries. We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated person to assist in the execution of our signature fundraising event: The Friends For Life Bike Rally.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with new and existing members of our community to increase registration in the Friends For Life Bike Rally, as well as increase corporate partnerships, sponsorships and teams.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Marketing & Development Coordinator reports to the Associate Director, Special Events and will have annual recruitment and marketing KPI targets to meet. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required) with a starting salary of $61,521.79 per year.
This position will work on a hybrid model combining at-home and in-office hours, with in-office hours increasing as the Friends For Life Bike Rally event approaches. The Coordinator is also required to attend the Bike Rally from Aug 3th-10th, 2025, travelling in a vehicle from Toronto to Montreal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work to establish year-round 2SLGBTIQ-focused Bike Rally events, including organizing winter spin classes, socials, and outdoor rides in the Spring/Summer. This includes creating branding, messaging and marketing, and recruiting new members.
2. Support all aspects of external marketing, communication and community engagement for the Friends for Life Bike Rally fundraising event and the Bike Rally Cycling Club.
a. Support organizational social media accounts and strategy.
b. Attend community and partner events to promote the Bike Rally and Cycling Club.
c. Build and expand relationships with 2SLGBTIQ and allied cycling clubs, sports organizations and social groups.
3. Develop a comprehensive recruitment plan to promote the organization to potential participants and partners, and maximize public awareness of the Friends For Life Bike Rally and Cycling Club. Working with the volunteer Steering Committee, the coordinator will develop and implement recruitment marketing campaigns, and analyze data and prepare reports as requested.
4. Build relationships with corporate affinity groups (Pride / DEI committees, cycling groups, etc.) to recruit corporate teams for the Bike Rally (esp. Port Hope 100K event). Collaborate with the rest of the development team to leverage these relationships to expand Bike Rally sponsorships.
5. Develop various online and offline engagement events throughout the year, from concept to budget to execution.
6. Keep abreast of current peer-to-peer event marketing trends and develop test/pilot projects to innovate.
7. Assist with logistics planning and execution in the lead-up to, and during, the Friends For Life Bike Rally.
8. Complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Strong understanding and knowledge of the complexity of issues relating to HIV/AIDS;
2. Strong understanding and knowledge of anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, anti-oppression, greater and meaningful involvement of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS (GIPA/MIPA), harm reduction, sex positivity and trauma informed care;
3. Lived experience of HIV/AIDS, 2SLGBTIQ, BIPOC, substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, and/or the effects of poverty is an asset
4. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships within the 2SLGBTQ+ community, with Steering Committee members and the public at large.
5. Excellent volunteer management and program coordination skills;
6. Demonstrated success building, cultivating and stewarding new relationships
7. Success in driving results by working collaboratively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers
8. Superior organizational, planning and record keeping skills with a demonstrated adaptability with a willingness to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency;
9. Strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to engage the public.
10. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the agency
11. Enthusiastic and creative with a positive attitude
12. Verbal and written fluency in French an asset
13. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Raisers Edge, TeamRaiser, Hootsuite, Canva and Monday.com is an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two to four (2-4) years’ experience in fundraising and marketing (including communications, social media management) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge of professional fundraising fundamentals and practices is required.
3. Provable track record developing, executing and delivering quantifiable results through digital and community campaigns; setting and achieving measurable targets.
4. Lived or work experience within the 2SLGBTQ+ community is required.
5. Experience in the cycling industry/community is considered an asset.
