We are pleased to welcome Michael Reid and Rex Shettlewood to PWA.

MichaelMichael joins PWA in a newly created position in the Philanthropy & Communications department – Manager, Philanthropy & Sponsorship. This new permanent position was developed as part of PWA’s commitment to investing in our fundraising resources in order to diversify and maximize our fundraising efforts. Michael will be implementing Corporate Sponsorship Program for the entire agency with a priority focus on the Friends For Life Bike Rally.

Michael joins the PWA’s Bike Rally staff support team – that includes the Director of Philanthropy and Communications, Special Events Coordinator, and Bike Rally Assistant – in a new role as Bike Rally Manager. Michael will participate in Executive and Steering Committees providing senior staff leadership to the event and additional support to volunteers.

Michael has been volunteering and working in the HIV movement for over 12 years.  As Fund Development and Community Engagement Manager at YouthCO in Vancouver, he built a donor and sponsorship program from the ground up, and used social media and events to engage young people with issues surrounding HIV. He has managed harm reduction, education and peer support programs, and spearheaded the creation of the Vancouver Mpowerment Project – a community-level HIV intervention for gay/bi youth.  Michael grew up in Toronto, attended UBC, lives in the Village and loves tacos.

It’s also that time of year in Bike Rally planning where “the rubber hits the road” as they say and we bring on additional staff support for the Bike Rally. We are pleased to announce that Rex has joined the team as Bike Rally Assistant and will be working closely with Trevor Ouellette, Special Events Coordinator providing  additional support to Bike Rally participants.

RexRex has been a Therapeutic Care volunteer with the PWA for the past year, making a mark through his approach to client care and departmental support.  He is passionate about community service and the desire to deepen his contribution with the work of the Foundation has led him to extend his involvement in various activities.

A recently certified Project Management Professional, Rex has laid the foundation with over ten years of progressive involvement in projects within the banking and financial sector as well as event management and looks forward to working alongside the team of staff and volunteers to make the 2017 Bike Rally a success.
