Spinning at the Central Y @ Central YMCA

Want a fun way to connect with fellow riders? Start your training early and build your aerobic fitness to ensure you hit the pavement this spring ready to ride! Registered Bike Rally Participants, join us for free spin classes at the Central YMCA.

Every Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30pm, and Sunday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, from now until April 28, 2019.

There are just 22 bikes available so please Register for each class at least 2 hours in advance. (The Y requires this attendance list.)

If you have registered a bike but no longer plan to attend, please Cancel Order via My Tickets so your bike can be freed up for others. Click on the My Tickets link at the top right of the confirmation or reminder email to login to your account on the Eventbrite website. Cancellation is not available on the Eventbrite mobile app.

A few notes:

  • arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of the class and proceed down the stairs on the left after walking in the front doors
  • check in with the Bike Rally coordinator and sign the log book on your way to the locker rooms; you may be asked to present photo ID

  • bring your own lock and towel or rent one from the Y at $2.00 eachbags, coats and boots are not permitted in the fitness spaces

  • once changed, take the long staircase to the second landing, pass through the weight room door and find the spin studio on the left

  • spin bikes have two-sided pedals: toe cages on one side permit the use of any kind of athletic shoe or sneaker; SPD clips on the other side fit compatible cycling shoes, to give you the most efficient, powerful and safest ride

Outdoor Training Kick-Off at Sweet Pete’s @ Sweet Pete's Bike Shop

Our good friends at Sweet Pete’s will be hosting a training kick-off evening for Bike Rally participants on Saturday, March 30, 6:00pm – 9:00pm at their store at 1204 Bloor Street West. They will run short 15 minute sessions on:

  • how to fix a flat;
  • how to estimate a good bike fit; and
  • advice on gear and apparel.

Come out to catch up with your Bike Rally family, pick up any gear you might be missing to start your outdoor training, and brush up your bike knowledge from the experts at Sweet Pete’s. Whether you’re new to the Bike Rally or a seasoned veteran, there’s something for everyone to get you ready to hit the road. Sweet Pete’s will also be providing 20% off parts and accessories (excluding Garmin), and 10% off bikes.

Long-time Bike Rally participant and supporter Harvey Malinsky pulls this incredible event together each year. This party/fundraiser is the best way to celebrate the half-way mark of the Rally, and generate more much-needed funds for HIV/AIDS.

The 2019 Bike Rally Arrival Celebration is in Parc des Faubourgs – right in the heart of Fierté Montréal – and will be hosted by none other than Torontonian and Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 11 Queen Brooke Lynn Hytes!

Cheer in our riders who have cycled to Montréal from Toronto or Kingston to raise money for the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation!

THE EVENT:
Friends for Life Bike Rally’s “Arrive with Pride” Celebration
Presented by ViiV Healthcare

3:00pm – 6:00pm @ Parc des Faubourgs, Montréal
FREE Entry, Cash Bars & Food Trucks

Le Vélothon Amis pour la vie 2019 célèbre son arrivée à Montréal au parc des Faubourgs – au cœur de Fierté Montréal. La célébration sera animée par nulle autre que la Torontoise et “queen” de la 11e saison de Rupaul’s Drag Race Brooke Lynn Hytes!

Venez accueillir chaleureusement les participants qui ont pédalé de Toronto ou Kingston jusqu’à Montréal afin d’amasser des fonds pour la fondation Toronto People With AIDS Foundation!
