GivingTuesday is a National Giving Day
Most people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday …now GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on November 29, 2016.
It is a new Canadian movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Cyber Monday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others. http://givingtuesday.ca
World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.
As a rider in PWA’s Friends For Life Bike Rally, you have the opportunity to choose whose team you will be part of for the Bike Rally. Your Team Leaders are fellow dedicated to checking in on your training progress, passing on important information for your Bike Rally experience and most importantly, helping to make the Bike Rally a fun and safe event. As posted in the last Bike Rally Bulletin, team selection will be open between January 11th to 13th and every rider that registers before January 11th will have the option of choosing which team they will join.
Meet the Team Leaders that have volunteered their time this year. Visit: http://bikerally.org/team-selection/

It doesn’t matter how experienced a rider you are. At some point you will get a flat tire. And if you don’t know how to fix a flat, it’s a complete game changer, leaving you at the mercy of riders or drivers around you or forcing you make a desperate phone call. Don’t let a flat ruin your ride. Knowing how to change a flat and the tools you’ll need will give you the confidence that you won’t ever be stranded. Come out and learn how. Bring your bike and tools for this hands-on seminar.
This is mandatory for anyone who has yet attended a Flat Fix clinic.
Our good friends at Sweet Pete’s will be hosting a training kick-off evening for Bike Rally participants on Saturday, April 7, 6:00 – 9:00 pm at 1204 Bloor Street West. They will run short 15 minute sessions on:
- fixing flats,
- how to estimate a good bike fit, and
- advice on gear and apparel.
Whether you’re new to the Bike Rally or a seasoned veteran, there’s something for everyone to get you ready to hit the road. Sweet Pete’s will also be providing 20% off parts and accessories (excluding Garmin), and 10% off bikes.

A one day event to check off some of those required seminars: the First Year Orientation and the Flat Fix Seminar. There will also be a speaker from HEAL Nutrition to talk about how you should manage your diet as you increase your training, as well as what to eat and drink on the bike. The First Year Orientation and Flat Fix Seminars will be run twice each, at 10:45 and 12:30, and the Nutrition Seminar at 2pm. This will also be an opportunity for riders to try on the jerseys to make sure you get the sizing right. This all goes down at PWA at 200 Gerrard Street East on Saturday, April 14.
