Outdoor Training Kick-Off at Sweet Pete’s @ Sweet Pete's Bike Shop

Our good friends at Sweet Pete’s will be hosting a training kick-off evening for Bike Rally participants on Saturday, April 7, 6:00 – 9:00 pm at 1204 Bloor Street West. They will run short 15 minute sessions on:

  • fixing flats,
  • how to estimate a good bike fit, and
  • advice on gear and apparel.

Whether you’re new to the Bike Rally or a seasoned veteran, there’s something for everyone to get you ready to hit the road. Sweet Pete’s will also be providing 20% off parts and accessories (excluding Garmin), and 10% off bikes.

Spinning at the North York Y @ North York YMCA

Want a fun way to connect with fellow riders, new and returning? Get your training off to an early start? Registered Bike Rally Participants, join us for free spinning classes at the North York YMCA.

Every Sunday, 8:30 to 9:30 am, from now until Departure Day!

There are 30 bikes available, so you can Register for each class in person, 15 minutes before the start, and there will be lots of bikes available. (The Y requires this attendance list.)

A few notes:

  • arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of the class and proceed to the Reception Desk downstairs (level B1)
  • check inwith the Reception Desk (you will need to tell them that you are a Bike Rally participant there to attend Jack Coop’s class); you will be asked to present photo ID; then sign the signup sheet for the class at the Reception Desk, before you make your way to the locker rooms
  • bring your own lock and towel – bags, coats and boots are not permitted in the fitness spaces
  • once changed, walk past the same Reception Desk to get to the Cyclefit Room – it is only 30 feet away, on the way to the aerobic room
  • spin bikes have two-sided pedals: toe cages on one side permit the use of any kind of athletic shoe or sneaker; SPD clips on the other side fit compatible cycling shoes, to give you the most efficient, powerful and safest ride

(Click on the My Tickets link at the top right of the confirmation or reminder email to login to your account on the Eventbrite website. Cancellation is not available on the Eventbrite app.)

Bike Rally Expo! @ PWA

A one day event to check off some of those required seminars: the First Year Orientation and the Flat Fix Seminar. There will also be a speaker from HEAL Nutrition to talk about how you should manage your diet as you increase your training, as well as what to eat and drink on the bike. The First Year Orientation and Flat Fix Seminars will be run twice each, at 10:45 and 12:30, and the Nutrition Seminar at 2pm. This will also be an opportunity for riders to try on the jerseys to make sure you get the sizing right. This all goes down at PWA at 200 Gerrard Street East on Saturday, April 14.

The Red Dress Ball @ The 519 - Ballroom

Red Dress Ball

On Saturday April 14th, we’re turning the 519 Ballroom into the Red Dress Ball for one night only! Come out and celebrate with international superstarDJ Kitty Glitter, and some of Toronto’s finest drag talent, as we raise funds and awareness for the 20th year of the PWA’s Friends For Life Bike Rally.

Whether you dress in red, or wear a red dress, the Red Dress Ball is a celebration of the creativity of Day Three of the 6-day ride, and a symbol for raising funds and HIV/AIDS awareness!

The Red Dress Ball is an independent fundraiser in support of the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) through their sustaining fundraiser, PWA’s Friends for Life Bike Rally.
